Well, I haven't entered a contest in a while, actually, so I thought it would be fun to try out my new emote pixel skills is one (those tiny ones, that is). Anyways, some info behind this piece!
I kinda just came up with the title as I was finishing it up, I thought it might be kinda cute. Gotta love our little superheros! <3 Introducing...my new shading style and overall, emote style! Yup! My official new shading style (I thought I had found it, but yesterday and today when I was working on this I developed a new one based off my old one X3). I actually like it, I think! :3 It's a bit of an off of the shiny emote shading style. Also, new eye style as well. I didn't copy it off of anyone, but I'm sure someone else uses it. D: Sorry to that person if someone does! Anyways. This took me probably 4-5 hours, even thought it's a small piece. I spent about an hour playing around and trying to figure out what I was going to do, about an hour and a half on the super hero, about an hour on the two 'civilians' and around an hour and a half for the background. I'm pretty happy with the background, not sure about the grass shading, but after three or four tries on that I settled on what you see. XD Not sure about the animation either, but...tried several times on that as well. :3 Oh well? I might fix it later. Since this is a pretty simple little thing, of course, I don't expect to win anything. That's for the amazing pieces. EDIT// Updated the animation so the emote flys across the whole sky. It's kinda wobbly though. I think it's because I didn't make the animation going straight the whole time. Ah well. -Suggested by *Drache-Lehre-
Since this piece is small, view a bigger version to see more details here - [link] Old Version (different animation) is here - [link] Time: Around 4-5 Hours (+30 minutes for animating) Layers: Around 20 Frames: Only Five (maybe that's why the animation looks bad XD) Now 80 Frames Color Count: 58 Colors Program: Photoshop Elements 11 Tools: Mouse, rare use of tablet
I think you did a great job on this one, I am curious what framerate you used, since it looks different in IE and Firefox (here is a journal about framerates: [link] and some more animation tips [link] ) And I think the Hero looks like that he is crashing into the ground I think it would be better if the hero comes close to the emotes and then he flies up again, maybe like this: [link] (the framerate is 0,08 and it has 28 frames.) Then I think that the sky is a bit too saturated and the colour next to the grass is too bright compared to the other blue shades. It seemed that you used 1 colour for the grass but when I zoomed in I noticed you used 5 colours, the colours are too similar. And maybe it would help if you would look how others created grass, maybe these pieces help [link][link][link][link][link][link][link][link] I would have done it like this: [link]
I think the frame rate was like 10 or something... Oh my! Yes, I was never happy with the animation, kinda planned to fix it before the contest was over but never got to it. But ooh, that's cute! :3 I always love how you fix it. XD Yeah, I have to agree now that I look at it. For both the grass and the sky, the grass is too plain. But those should help.
I don't know enough about Photoshop Elements 11 to say something about the framerates Have you tried to preview the animation in different browsers before you submit it?

I hope this helps

And of course it helped!
